Danny McKnight is a retired Army Ranger and Colonel who served as the commander of the 3rd Ranger Battalion during the Mogadishu operation depicted in the book and movie "Black Hawk Down." McKnight was a part of the U.S. Military's deployment to Somalia in 1993, which resulted in a violent battle against Somali militiamen. McKnight led a group of Army Rangers in the battle that lasted 18 hours and resulted in the deaths of 18 American soldiers and hundreds of Somalis. McKnight was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his role in the operation. Following his military career, he has worked as a defense contractor and is a sought-after speaker on leadership and team building.
